The EzH₂ Ecosystem

Claire is developing EzH₂, a new patented and trademarked low-carbon hydrogen fuel.  EzH₂ is designed as a sustainable bimodal product that can be used both as an endlessly recyclable LOHC to deliver pure hydrogen at specific points of use and a low-carbon or carbon-neutral combustible fuel. 

Our vision is to deliver EzH₂ as an industry solution to reduce the carbon intensity and increase operational efficiencies across the energy value chain, including power, industrial and heavy transportation, at a competitive price point to fossil fuels without benefits of any government incentives.

The EzH₂ Ecosystem is a suite of energy technology solutions that enable EzH₂ to store molecularly-bound hydrogen at stable, ambient conditions for later release in fixed and mobile applications.  EzH₂ is being designed as a total system solution to supply pure hydrogen at scale to fuel cells for clean electricity generation and to provide hydrogen as a fuel for converted internal combustion engines or gas turbines.

The EzH₂ Fuel

EzH₂ is Claire’s new bimodal, hydrogen-based fuel product designed with key versatile characteristics:

  • Storage and transport at ambient conditions
  • Suitable for use over a wide temperature range from extremely cold polar to high temperature desert environments
  • Pure hydrogen release as needed at the point-of-use
  • Combustible without incurring carbon penalties

EzH₂ is produced in stable, reversible process reactions for saturated hydrogen storage (hydrogenation process) and hydrogen extraction and release (dehydrogenation process).  Claire utilizes a recyclable liquid organic aromatic, toluene, as the hydrogen storage agent.

The hydrogenation process saturates toluene to produce highly stable methylcyclohexane (MCH) which forms the basis of our EzH₂ product.  EzH₂ is transported and stored at ambient conditions, and the dehydrogenation process releases pure hydrogen at specific points of use to power fuel cells, machinery, converted gas turbines and other fixed and mobility applications requiring hydrogen combustion.

Claire envisions a wide range of applications unlocked by EzH₂, including safe and efficient storage of hydrogen as a liquid battery for on-demand clean electricity dispatch, electrification and increased operational efficiencies of industrial processes and ushering in a new generation of low-carbon, hydrogen-fueled modes of heavy transport such as trucking, rail and marine.
